12 Month ABSN Programs

A 12-month ABSN is one of the fastest ways to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing if you already have a non-nursing bachelor’s degree or meet a program’s prior college-credit requirements. These accelerated programs compress the nursing curriculum and clinical training into about one year of full-time study.

The table below compares 12-month ABSN programs by location, estimated tuition, minimum GPA, and application deadlines. Costs vary widely, so compare program requirements as well as tuition before choosing a school.

Last reviewed: August 2026. Program length, tuition, admission requirements, and application deadlines can change. Confirm current information with each nursing school before applying.

How Do 12-Month ABSN Programs Work?

A 12-month ABSN covers the nursing education required for a prelicensure bachelor’s degree on an accelerated schedule. Students typically complete nursing courses, skills and simulation labs, and clinical rotations throughout the year.

The short timeline does not usually include the time needed to complete missing prerequisite courses. Applicants may need courses such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, chemistry, statistics, or nutrition before starting the nursing sequence.

Because the curriculum is compressed, 12-month ABSN programs are generally designed for full-time study. Students should expect a demanding schedule that can include classes, labs, clinical shifts, studying, and assignments during the same week.

How Much Does a 12-Month ABSN Cost?

Tuition varies significantly. The programs in our comparison range from less than $10,000 in estimated tuition at some public universities to more than $80,000 at some private institutions.

The lowest advertised tuition may also depend on residency. Compare in-state and out-of-state rates and check for mandatory fees, books, nursing supplies, uniforms, testing costs, transportation, and other expenses.

If cost is your main concern, see our Cheapest ABSN Programs comparison for programs with some of the lowest estimated tuition in our database.

Is a One-Year ABSN Right for You?

The fastest program is not necessarily the best program for every student. A 12-month ABSN may be a good fit if you have completed the required prerequisites, can commit to full-time nursing education, and want to enter the nursing workforce as quickly as possible.

Before applying, compare:

  • Prerequisite requirements
  • Minimum and competitive GPA expectations
  • Estimated tuition and fees
  • Clinical and campus locations
  • Program start dates
  • Application deadlines
  • Entrance exam requirements
  • Nursing program approval and accreditation
  • Eligibility for RN licensure after graduation

A program that takes 15 or 16 months may be a better choice if it offers a lower cost, more convenient location, or schedule that fits your circumstances.
