Program Overview
Loyola’s 17-month hybrid ABSN combines synchronous online theory with New Orleans-area clinical placements and a 54-credit nursing sequence across four consecutive semesters.
Loyola University New Orleans offers a full-time accelerated BSN for students with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree or higher. The current bulletin describes year-round study, including summer, and does not recommend full-time employment while enrolled.
Online theory is synchronous, with scheduled participation, and students attend in-person skills verification and clinical practicums. Jesuit whole-person care is reflected in both the curriculum and the Health in Mind, Body & Spirit course.
Accreditation and Outcomes
Loyola’s baccalaureate nursing program is CCNE accredited. The LSBN school list identifies initial approval for its baccalaureate program; graduate nursing approval is listed separately.
LSBN’s February 2026 report of all 2025 quarters lists a 74.29% first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate for Loyola: 26 of 35 candidates. This is a program-level nursing result, not an ABSN-only rate or a prediction of individual success.
Admissions Requirements
- A completed bachelor’s degree or higher in a field outside nursing.
- C or better in required prerequisites, with accepted equivalents normally less than 10 years old.
- An individual gap analysis by the ABSN director/advisor to establish the plan of study.
- A completed program application and required college transcripts.
- Before clinical study: LSBN student application/background review, school screening, physical examination, drug screening, BLS, insurance and immunization/TB documentation.
The program page accepts applications year-round. Confirm the entering cohort’s file-completion deadline and GPA screening with the nursing advisor. The bulletin’s 2.5 cumulative Loyola GPA is a progression requirement for enrolled nursing students.
The current nursing page states that international student applicants cannot be accepted. Clinical agencies may impose additional compliance requirements.
Prerequisites
Prior-degree credit satisfies most Loyola Core requirements, while an individual review establishes accepted science and support equivalents.
- Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs: 8 credits.
- Microbiology with lab: 4 credits.
- Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry, or an approved general chemistry course: 3 credits.
- Introduction to Psychology and Developmental Psychology: 3 credits each.
- Introduction to Statistics: 3 credits; required before nursing research.
Equivalent courses require C or better and the stated recency standard. Prerequisites are separate from the 54 nursing credits.
Curriculum
The current program-linked progression plan identifies 54 nursing credits in four terms of 14/14/13/13 credits. Foundations lead to adult and mental health, pediatric and population care, then women’s health, complex adult care and professional integration.

Nursing courses require C or better. Students must maintain a cumulative Loyola GPA of at least 2.5; the bulletin provides academic-probation conditions and a six-year limit for completing undergraduate nursing coursework. The entering cohort’s registration plan governs course timing and co-requisites.
Clinical Experience
The published 2026 progression plan identifies 960 clinical hours. Clinical practicums accompany foundations, adult health, mental health, child health, women’s health and population nursing.
Loyola advertises program-arranged, guaranteed clinical placements with partner organizations in the Greater New Orleans area. Simulation begins in the first semester in the Loyola Ochsner Nursing Simulation Lab. Students still need transportation and availability for their assigned site, schedule and skills-verification sessions.
Tuition and Costs
The 2026–27 bulletin’s hybrid undergraduate rate specifically lists $980 per credit for accelerated BSN nursing. For 54 nursing credits, estimated tuition is $52,920, excluding prerequisites, fees and personal expenses.
- The undergraduate fee schedule lists general fees of $1,070 per full-time semester and $105 for summer.
- Its BSN program fee is $1,000 per full-time semester; confirm its application to the hybrid cohort and summer.
- The current graduation fee is $450.
- Lab/practicum charges and health insurance, unless waived with qualifying coverage, may add costs.
- Budget for books, health screening, supplies, uniforms, transportation and living expenses.
Do not apply the traditional undergraduate flat tuition rate or the generic fully online rate to this hybrid ABSN. Request an itemized cohort budget; later annual increases can change actual tuition. Admitted applicants may be considered for merit aid, and federal aid and outside scholarships have separate eligibility rules.
