Program Overview

Herzing’s campus-based second-degree BSN combines tiered GPA and TEAS admission routes with 12 embedded graduate credits and an accelerated 20–24-month plan.

This shared profile covers Herzing’s Minneapolis-area accelerated BSN and its Florida options in Orlando/Winter Park and Tampa. Nursing instruction requires campus and clinical attendance, with selected online coursework and simulation supporting practice.

The degree requires 120 semester credits. A prior bachelor’s degree supplies a minimum 35-credit block transfer, leaving up to 85 credits before additional approved transfers; completing science requirements within the program can extend the shortest 20-month plan to 24 months.

Accreditation

Herzing’s baccalaureate nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, including the applicable campus and satellite arrangements. Herzing University holds institutional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.

Admissions Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A prior bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, or an accepted equivalent.
  • A qualifying cumulative GPA and the corresponding science-GPA or TEAS route.

GPA and TEAS Routes

  • Cumulative GPA 3.50–4.00: no separate science GPA or TEAS requirement.
  • Cumulative GPA 3.00–3.49: a 3.0 science GPA can qualify without TEAS; otherwise TEAS 66 or higher provides the applicable exam route.
  • Cumulative GPA at least 2.50: TEAS composite score of at least 66, with no separate science-GPA requirement.

Science GPA uses at least two applicable courses among Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology, including all taken courses in that set. Applicants should request an individual evaluation of grades and transfer equivalents.

Prerequisites and Transfer Credit

Up to 90 approved credits may transfer, including the 35-credit prior-degree block. Additional eligible nonclinical courses are evaluated individually; a course within one credit hour of the required course may qualify under the transfer policy.

The support courses below can be completed at Herzing if accepted transfer work does not satisfy them. Anatomy and Physiology I and II require B or better, with a two-attempt limit; other listed support requirements generally require at least C.

CourseCreditsWhat you study
SC 154 — Anatomy and Physiology I
4
Study human body structure and function with laboratory application.
SC 254 — Anatomy and Physiology II
4
Continue study of body systems and their physiological relationships with laboratory application.
SC 150 — Principles of Nutrition
2
Examine nutrient needs and their role in health and disease.
SC 166 — Microbiology
3
Study microorganisms and their relationship to health and infection, with laboratory learning.
SC 186 — Chemistry
3
Study chemical principles relevant to biological systems, with laboratory learning.
MA 320 — Statistics
3
Use statistical concepts to interpret quantitative information and research.

Starts and Application Deadlines

Admission is rolling rather than governed by one annual final deadline. Confirm the next available campus cohort and completed-file cutoff with admissions; the 20-month minimum depends on approved preparation and the assigned plan.

Curriculum

The plan includes 54 nursing credits, 12 dual-credit graduate credits and 19 support credits, in addition to the 35-credit prior-degree block. Nursing study progresses from assessment and fundamentals through medical-surgical and specialty practice, then community nursing, a practicum and integrated NCLEX review.

Students are assigned the graduate courses and may request corresponding undergraduate courses under university policy. The embedded graduate courses can count toward an applicable Herzing MSN pathway. Obtain advising on graduate progression and transferability; they do not constitute a separate master’s degree.

These course requirements and descriptions are published on the official Orlando and Tampa accelerated-program pages. The current university catalog and the assigned campus plan govern registration and progression.

Clinical Experience and Progression

The official contact-hour schedule identifies 630 clinical hours and 210 laboratory hours across the full curriculum. The laboratory total includes support-science laboratories and nursing assessment/skills learning; it is not a measure of high-fidelity simulation alone.

  • Fundamentals 45 clinical hours and Medical-Surgical I 135: 180 hours.
  • Mental Health 45, Family Nursing 90, Medical-Surgical II 90 and Medical-Surgical III 45: 270 hours.
  • Community/Public Health 45 and BSN Practicum 135: 180 hours.
  • Health Assessment’s 30 contact hours in the laboratory column are lab hours, rather than clinical hours.

Clinical-readiness preparation and dosage-calculation proficiency are required. Standardized proctored testing supports progression and NCLEX preparation.

Herzing’s published accelerated-program outline describes milestone exams, remediation and a final-term exit exam in NSG 426. It provides a remedial final exit examination and an incomplete-grade resolution process, with graduation delayed if benchmarks are not met; obtain the entering cohort’s current testing policy and benchmarks.

Tuition and Required Fees

The official tuition estimator, with only the automatic 35-credit transfer and no additional transfers, estimates 85 remaining credits over six semesters. Its rates are effective through summer 2027 and vary by campus.

  • Minneapolis: $750 per credit × 85 = $63,750 tuition; six semesters of fees add $6,030, for $69,780 combined.
  • Orlando: $730 per credit × 85 = $62,050 tuition; six semesters of fees add $6,030, for $68,080 combined.
  • Per-semester program fee: $450.
  • Per-semester learner-resource fee: $555.
  • Additional approved science or other transfer credits can reduce billed tuition and may change the semester estimate.
  • Budget separately for clinical travel, uniforms, health clearance, insurance and personal living expenses.

The main profile’s Quick Facts use Minneapolis tuition. The Florida comparison uses the verified Orlando estimate; request a campus-specific evaluation for Tampa and other locations, since billing and approved transfers can differ.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Herzing lists the Strive Scholarship ($2,000), Nurses Circle of Achievement (10% tuition reduction), Military and First Responder’s Appreciation Grant (10% of direct costs), and federal HRSA Nurse Corps support among available opportunities. Eligibility, award availability and any service obligations apply; awards are not automatic reductions from the tuition estimate.
