Program Overview

Albany State’s second-degree BSN follows five consecutive semesters, including summer, with campus instruction and clinical learning in the Phoebe Health System.

The program serves graduates with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree and begins each fall. Its published map runs fall, spring, summer, fall and spring; plan for the full five-semester sequence rather than a 16-month schedule.

Lectures usually meet in the L-Building on West Campus in Albany. Selected courses may use online or hybrid delivery, but that format is not guaranteed. Nursing laboratories and assigned clinical experiences require attendance.

Admissions Requirements

Degree and GPA: Applicants need a non-nursing bachelor’s degree from an accredited program and a graduating cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Coursework or degrees completed after that first bachelor’s degree do not change the graduating GPA used for eligibility.

  • Gain official university admission in good standing before submitting the nursing application.
  • Earn at least 70% overall on the TEAS, within no more than two attempts during the 12 months before applying.
  • Submit official ATI transcripts when testing outside ASU’s West Campus Testing Center.
  • Complete and exit required learning-support courses.

Prior course failures: The program normally permits no more than one required science failure and no more than one prior nursing failure. Applicants with two science or two nursing failures may be considered only after three years have passed since the most recent relevant failure.

Prerequisites

Required preparation includes English Composition I and II, anatomy and physiology I and II, microbiology, growth and development, and laboratory science. Each must be passed with C or better. Anatomy and physiology must be less than six years old at potential admission; older courses must be repeated before applying.

The 2026–27 accelerated catalog map includes two sequenced laboratory sciences before entry, in addition to the other listed courses. Have ASU review the complete transfer record and any additional Core IMPACTS or graduation requirements, particularly for degrees earned outside the University System of Georgia.

Pre-nursing seminar: NURS 1232 is an ASU-specific two-credit requirement. Earn B or better no later than the first nursing semester; it may be completed before enrollment.

Start Term and Final Application Deadline

Applications for fall entry run January 1 through June 1, with classes beginning in August. Apply to the university at least one month before the nursing application to allow transfer review. A nursing application submitted before official university acceptance or without official TEAS results is denied.

After acceptance, prepare for background checks, drug screening, immunizations and health clearance, BLS certification and health-insurance requirements. Clinical agencies may impose additional clearance conditions.

Curriculum

The current catalog assigns 60 professional nursing credits across five semesters. NURS 1232 adds two preparatory credits if not already completed. Foundational assessment and pharmacology lead into adult and specialty care, community health, leadership and final licensure preparation.

The five nursing-term totals are 13, 13, 10, 11 and 13 credits. The first fall becomes 15 credits when the seminar is taken then. NURS 4111 is the required three-credit NCLEX preparation variation, rather than an optional directed-study elective; use the program’s assigned credits for assessment and leadership courses.

Skills laboratories and simulation begin early and support clinical work. The senior comprehensive course and directed licensure preparation complete the sequence. Review the current BSN catalog and accelerated map with an adviser.

Clinical Experience

Clinical learning is normally arranged at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, other Phoebe Health System facilities and nearby specialty sites. Adult health, pediatrics, mental health, women’s health and community care are integrated with nursing coursework.

Placement eligibility: Students must satisfy each agency’s background, drug-screening and health requirements. If an agency refuses placement, ASU is not obligated to secure an alternative; the student may be unable to progress. Arrange transportation for assigned sites and required laboratory and simulation sessions.

Tuition and Costs

Estimated resident tuition: $10,912 for 60 nursing credits plus the two-credit pre-nursing seminar at the 2026–27 bachelor’s rate of $176 per credit. Nursing coursework alone is $10,560; the seminar adds $352 only if still required. Prerequisites, additional graduation courses and living expenses are separate.

Mandatory university fees: Five terms at the published standard $745 fee total add $3,725.

The current tuition and fee schedule lists $139.75 testing charges for each of NURS 2231, 2331, 4240 and 4342, plus $380 for NURS 4345: $939 across those five courses.

Nursing background checks are listed at $96, the skills kit at $43, liability insurance at $13 and ACEMAPP at $50; confirm assessment frequency and any placement-specific charges.

Budget for uniforms, books, skills supplies, clearance, BLS, clinical travel and required health insurance unless an approved waiver applies.

ASU’s nursing cost page still illustrates 2025–26 rates: $10,440 tuition plus $3,725 university fees equals $14,165. That older combined figure is not tuition alone. The estimate above applies current rates across the sequence; future academic-year changes, course delivery, residency and approved transfers can change actual charges.

Accreditation

Albany State’s baccalaureate nursing program at West Campus holds continuing accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The Georgia Board of Nursing approves the program. Graduates earn the BSN and become eligible to seek RN licensure through the NCLEX-RN and the applicable state-board requirements.
